Class 3A Girls Notes - #1 York has been making statements all fall. Their latest was the slam dunk that they had at Palatine last Saturday. York should stay at the top spot into November unless something catastrophic happens which we doubt will occur. Naperville North and Prospect are close at #2 and #3. Yorkville finishing behind Naperville North last Friday in Minnesota. The Lady Foxes jump from #21 to #5 and jump int the discussion of a trophy contender. Loyola and Maine South’s strong finishes at Palatine moves both schools into the top 10. Three schools enter the top 30 this week. Lockport at #21 and Edwardsville at #25 enter because of their races at Palatine. Plainfield North re-enters at #30 after a good race at the Naperville Girls Invitational last Friday. New Trier did not run their full lineup at Palatine. Yorkville’s race bumps the Trevians down one spot.

Class 3A Girls – September 22, 2021

Class 3A Girls Notes – York has a stranglehold on the #1 spot after another strong race performance with their win last week at Peoria. Prospect closed the gap on Naperville North after finishing behind York. Prospect races York for the third straight week this week at Palatine. Naperville North travels to Minnesota to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday. Downers Grove South finished 10 at Peoria but did not have one of their top runners Sophia McNerney in their lineup. The Mustangs drop only one spot because of that. There are four WSC-Silver teams in the top 10, five in the top 13. Hinsdale Central (#8) and Oak Park-River Forest (#9) move up after their 3-4 finish at Peoria. Lincoln-Way East makes a big move into the first 30 after strong races from their runners in the Varsity and Frosh/Soph races at Peoria. Lake Zurich is the one of two new team in the top 30 making their debut at #25. Oswego moves back into the top 30 at #27 after a pre-season ranking of #20. The IHSA sectional assignments came out last Thursday. The Hinsdale Central Sectional is brutal with 11 ranked teams assigned to that site. 7 of those teams are ranked in the top 11. Hoffman Estates is also deep with 9 ranked teams in the top 30. 3 of those teams are ranked in the top 12. Lake Park (6) and Quincy (4) are the other two sectional sites.

Class 3A Girls – September 15, 2021

Class 3A Girls Notes – York remains the queen of the hill after another strong race and win at Lake Park almost doubling the score on #3 Prospect. Both teams will race again Saturday in the Richard Spring Classic. The win by Lucy Westlake and a 30 second 2-5 pack gave the advantage to Naperville North in their win last week in Peoria. The gap between York and Naperville North is bigger from 1 to 2. Naperville North and Prospect are closer together between 2 to 3. Minooka had a strong race in Peoria finishing only 15 points behind Naperville North. Downers Grove South did not race last week but will be in Peoria on Saturday. They remain in the top five. Lyons Township moves into the top 10 jumping 5 spots to #8. The addition of Katrina Schlenker for Batavia makes them the biggest mover in the rankings jumping from #22 to #11. Maine South opened the season finishing third at Lake Park. They jump into the top 30 at #14. St. Charles North is the only other new school in the rankings entering fr the first time this year at #23.

Class 3A Girls – September 7, 2021

3A Girls Notes – York starts at the top spot after a strong opening win at the Leavey Invitational even without their top two runners. Naperville North traveled to Iowa where they doubled the score on nationally ranked Edina MN. The Huskies did this without one of their top seven runners Sophie Golobitsch winning the Junior Varsity race. There is a slight gap after these first two teams. The difference of the nxt five teams is minimal. Minooka edged Prospect by four points at Hinsdale without their top runner not finishing the race. Prospect had a sophomore Lily Ginsberg run in a lower-level race. With Ginsberg running on varsity and Minooka’s Jocelyn Host finishing the race, Prospect would have won the meet perhaps by three to five points. Downers Grove South dropped two spots even winning at Fenton with a strong 1-2 in Holly Johnson and Sophia McNerney in the top five.

The biggest movement in the rankings came from teams running at Hinsdale. New Trier, Naperville Central, Glenbard West, and Hinsdale Central all had good races at Hinsdale bumping them up in the rankings. Wheaton-Warrenville South finished 12 in the Varsity race at that meet. The addition of three freshman from the sophomore race gives the Tigers a 10-spot jump into the top 20.

Six teams move into the top 30 led by Libertyville at #17 after strong races at Lake County and UW-Parkside. Jacobs, Batavia, Plainfield North, Palatine, and Metea Valley are the other teams that moved up for this week’s rankings.

8/23 3A Girls Notes – The IHSA on August 18 made changes to the 2021 XC Classifications. Riverside-Brookfield, HL Richards, and Marist were moved from Class 3A to Class 2A. None of the schools were ranked in the top 30.
