Normal University Regional

It was not the same results as it was last week on this course for the Corn Belt Conference Meet. #1 Mahomet-Seymour still won the regional title 39-53 ahead of #2 Normal University. The Bulldogs did not run some of their regular top seven including one of their top runners Andrew Walmer. Mahomet still put five runners in the first sixteen. Jack Franklin (Normal University) won the individual title running 14:46 and finishing 13 seconds ahead of Metamora’s Jake Gillum. #5 Metamora scored 76 points to finish third.

Kari Lalumandier and Sierrah Seals finished in the top five to lead #7 Metamora to the team championship with 45 points. Lalumandier won the individual race (17:58) winning by five seconds ahead of Megan Churm (Mahomet-Seymour HS). #16 Washington used a 43 second split on their top five with Kassidy Dexheimer placing seventh to finish second as a team (56 points). #9 Mahomet-Seymour finished third (59 points) led by Churm’s finish and Brisa McGrath’s fifth place finish. #8 Normal University finished fourth (85 points) with Katy Clausen finishing third.

Galesburg Regional

#2 Dunlap held out some of their top seven. The Eagles still put three runners in the first five to win the team title with 30 points. Franny Verville led Dunlap with the individual win (18:00) finishing more than a half a minute ahead of Grace Breitbach (Notre Dame HS, Peoria). #19 Notre Dame (54 points) and Galesburg (106 points) finished second and third.

Patrick Bruch won while Mitchell Maushard finished fifth to lead #18 Peoria Notre Dame to a narrow three point win (48-51) ahead of #20 Dunlap. The Eagles had a 3-4-7 finish led by Drew Fick’s third place finish. Geneseo was another four points back in third. Bruch ran 15:53 to win by fourteen seconds ahead of Augie Darrow (Alleman HS, Rock Island).

Morris Regional

Ryan Porter won the individual race leading four runners for #25 La-Salle Peru in the top eight. They scored 30 points to easily win the regional title. Morris (71 points) and Streator (80 points) finished second and third. Porter ran 15:48 for the win eighteen seconds ahead of teammate Brendon Sebastian.

Rachel Hickey (LaSalle-Peru HS) led from the start to win the Girls individual race (18:43) by forty seconds ahead of Streator’s Charleen Mascote. Morris had four runners in the first ten to help them with the team title (46 points) ahead of LaSalle-Peru (58 points) and Ottawa (60 points). Only six teams had enough runners to score. All runners in this race advanced to nest week’s sectional race at Metamora.

Sterling Regional

#1 Belvidere North packed it up placing all of their seven runners in the first eleven. The Blue Thunder scored 29 points to win the regional title behind Jenna Lutzow’s third place finish. She stayed back with the pack while Boylan Catholic’s Delaney Appino ran 17:08 to win the individual race twenty seconds ahead of teammate Grace McLaughlin. Belvidere North’s split on their top five runners was only 27 seconds. #13 Dixon finished second (63 points) with Rockford Boylan only five points back.

A 1-2 finish by Jacob Gebhardt and Jonathan Landis along with a sixth place finish by Bryce Tessmann earned #9 Sterling the Boys regional championship with 35 points. Gebhardt and Landis crossed the line together both timed at 15:19. #24 Belvidere North was a surprising second (59 points) led by Alec Scott’s fourth place finish. The Blue Thunder was three points ahead of third place #14 Dixon.

Burlington Central Regional

#4 Crystal Lake Central won the Boys Regional championship behind Cole Barkocy’s fourth place finish. The Tigers were also helped by top ten finishes by Weston Sterchi (8th) and Brandon Tomasello (9th). #7 Sycamore was next with 83 points with #15 Hampshire (92 points) and Prairie Ridge (97 points) placing third and fourth. Vernon Hills (109 points) and #16 Burlington Central (110 points) were the final two teams to qualify for next week’s sectional race. #21 Kaneland finished seventh and failed to advance. Kaneland’s Matthew Richtman ran 14:52 to win the individual race just two seconds ahead of Sycamore’s Stephen Poorten.

#3 Vernon Hills had the advantage in this race with five runners in the first fourteen to edge #4 Crystal Lake Central 44-54 for the regional title. The Cougars had a five runner split of 38 seconds led by the 5-6 finish by Lauren Katz and Payton Makowskyj. Crystal Lake Central was close behind. The Tigers had five runners in the first seventeen led by Janine Orvis’ fourth place finish. #14 Kaneland scored 104 points to finish third followed by Burlington Central (114 points) and Hampshire (124 points.

Woodstock North Regional

#3 Grayslake Central took the first three places and five in the first ten to win the Boys team title with 24 points. Jack Aho led the first three sweep winning by just a second ahead of his brother Matt. Eli Minsky finished third. #13 Lakes (50 points) finished second as they had Jeremy Wallace and Kael Moran place fifth and seventh.

The most competitive of the 2A meets was this one as five ranked teams were in the race. #6 Lakes, led by Olivia Schmidt’s win, edged #11 Grayslake Central 69-72 for the team title. Grayslake Central had Elizabeth Aho (9th) and Megan Girmschied (10th) finish in the top ten. #17 Woodstock finished third (86 points) followed by #15 Marian Central Catholic (86 points), Grayslake North (98 points), and #18 Carmel Catholic (102 points).

Danville Regional

#8 Danville followed up their Big 12 Conference win with the Boys regional title on their home course. The Vikings used a 34 second split on their top five led by the 4-5-6 finish by William Powell, Michael Moreman, and Sincere Williams-Davis to score 49 points for the win. Mt. Zion, led by the individual win by Mason Jones, finished second with 86 points ahead of Mattoon (96 points) and Salem (103 points).

#21 Urbana won their first regional title in the Girls program’s history as they scored 69 points led by top five finishes by Olivia Rosenstein (3rd), Libby Cultra (4th), and Chian Scott (5th). Mattoon finished second (77 points) with only a 26 second split on their top five off of Gillian Card’s 13th place finish. Urbana University’s Annemarie Michael ran 18:11 to win the individual race six seconds ahead of Shanice Garbutt (Danville HS).

Triad Regional

MVC Conference rivals #24 Mascoutah and Waterloo were only separated by two points in the Girls race with Mascoutah coming away with the 55-57 win. Mt. Vernon (77 points) finished third. Jenna Schwartz (Waterloo HS) ran 18:23 to win by almost a minute ahead of Mt. Vernon’s Kate Bushue (19:16). Mascoutah was led by Melanie Cozzi’s fifth place finish.

#10 Marion again received top three finishes by Zach Young and John Bruce to help them win the Boys title with 50 points. #17 Mascoutah (75 points) and #19 Waterloo (90 points) finished second and third. Young ran 16:13 to out sprint Waterloo’s Jake Schwartz by one second to win the individual race. Marion’s Bruce was another second behind in third.

Jacksonville Regional

Ben Flowers (Jerseyville HS) returned after missing his conference meet with an ankle injury. He showed no effects from that as he ran 14:34 on the 2.9 mile course to win the individual race eleven seconds ahead of Chris Durr (Glenwood HS, Chatham). #6 Chatham-Glenwood ran a 70 second split off of Durr’s finish to win the team title with only 41 points. Taylorville finished a surprising second (67 points) ahead of #12 Springfield (76 points).

#12 Chatham-Glenwood got top ten finishes from Ali Wynn (2nd), Katie Curry (6th), and Marisa Rios (8th) to win the Girls team title with 43 points. Katherine Petty (Rochester HS) won individually (17:37) by nine seconds ahead of Glenwood’s Wynn. Springfield (78 points) finished second followed by Rochester (95 points) and Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (97 points).

Hinsdale South Regional

Both of the team races in tis meet were close. #10 Lemont ran a 43 second split on their top five to win the team title 57-63 ahead of #25 Rosary. Lemont’s Julianne McClatchy led her team with a sixth place finish. Rosary was powered by Claire Hengensbaugh’s second place run. Abby Fioresi (Aurora Central Catholic HS) ran 17:57 for the win 31 seconds ahead of Hegensbaugh.

Brother Rice won the Boys title 75-78 ahead of #22 Hinsdale South led by Joe Sweeney’s seventh place finish. Brother Rice, has been under the radar most of the year, had a 64 second split on their top five. Hinsdale South received top five finishes from Brett Haffner (4th) and Chris Joseph (5th). Illinois Math & Science Academy finished third (86 points) ahead of St. Francis (93 points), Montini Catholic (104 points), and Wheaton Academy (109 points). Nick Bruch (St. Francis HS, Wheaton) ran 15:17 to win the individual title by six seconds ahead of IMSA’s Daniel Chen.

Riverside-Brookfield Regional

Host Riverside Brookfield had an easy time in winning both team titles. In the Boys race, Mateo Nunez led five Bulldog runners in the first eight to win the team title with only 21 points. Solorio Academy was second (64 points). Jesus Palmerin (Kennedy HS, Chicago) ran 15:25 to win by ten seconds ahead of RB’s Nunez. The next pack of runners was more than a minute behind. Tara Janney led a 1-2-3 finish for Riverside-Brookfield in the Girls race as they scored only 21 points for the win. They had six runners in the first nine. Janney ran 19:12 for the win eleven seconds ahead of her teammate Nadia Kaczmarz.

Illiana Christain Regional

Illiana’s Gillian Fiene won the individual race to help her school win the Girls team title with 34 points. Marian Catholic scored 45 points to finish second. Fiene’s time of 18:39 was 28 seconds ahead of second place Kelly Mindak (Marian Catholic, Chicago Heights). Bremen had three runners in the first nine led by Javier Simental’s fourth place finish to help his team win the regional title with 49 points. TF North (69 points) and Tinley Park (74 points) finished second and third. Jazare Jones (Thornridge HS, Dolton) ran 16:27 to win the individual race three seconds ahead of teammate Johnny Dickson.

Chicago University Regional

Only four teams had enough runners (five) to score in both the Boys and Girls meet. St. Ignatius Prep scored 31 points to win the Girls team title behind Abby Gaughan’s fourth place finish. Chicago University’s Elsa Erling won the individual race (19:27) almost half a minute ahead of teammate Liza Edwards-Levin. Chicago University put all of their seven runners in the first eleven to win the Boys title with only 18 points taking the first four places. Charles Sowerby led three U-High runners in within three seconds to win in 17:04.

Chicago Latin Regional

Trinity won the Girls team title 44-47 ahead of #23 Latin School and third place #20 Payton who scored 56 points. Hailey Hansen led Trinity with a second place finish. Latin School did not have their #1 runner Laura Katunas in their lineup on Saturday. Payton put three runners in the top five led by Alanah Chandler’s individual win. Chandler’s time of 19:46 was nineteen seconds ahead of Trinity’s Hansen

Alejandro Vargas won the individual race while leading Payton to the Boys team title with 34 points. Latin School scored 53 points to finish second. Vargas’ time of 16:45 was 23 seconds ahead of Pritzker’s Ulises Bautista who finished second.

St. Viator Regional

Host St. Viator had a 2-3 finish by Sam Brey and Kevin Goss to help them win the Boys Regional title with 48 points. Elmwood Park (71 points) and Northside Prep (80 points) finished second and third. Jeremy Bekkouche (Mather HS, Chicago) ran 15:57 to win the individual race twenty seconds ahead of St. Viator’s Brey. #5 Northside Prep placed all seven of their runners in the first ten to easily win the Girls team title with only 19 points. Mather scored 60 points to finish second. Sara McCoy led Northside with the individual win (18:31) just eight seconds ahead of teammate Fiona Casey.
