Glenbard West finishes on top
By Michael Newman
For the first time since the beginning of the rankings in 2013 when Minooka won the top prize, a school outside of the St. Louis Metro area took the top spot.
Glenbard West did not have a relay squad that won a state championship. They did have the depth to win the 2018 title with 166 points. Three of their four relays earned all-state honors in the IHSA Boys State Meet on May 26. Their 3200 Meter Relay finished fourth, their 400 Meter Relay finished fifth, and their 800 Meter Relay finished sixth. Those relays helped them finish in a tie for ninth overall in the team standings at state. The Hilltoppers finished ninth in the rankings in 2017.
Their 166-point total is the second lowest in the six years that the rankings have been contested. It did show how balanced the year was as the second-place team, Hoffman Estates, finished second with 131.5 points. That point total would have placed seventh in 2017.
Homewood-Flossmoor (131 points), Belleville West (130 points), and Neuqua Valley (128 points) rounded out the top five teams.
There were three 2A teams that finished in the top 20 led by Mascoutah and their sixth-place finish. Burlington Central and East St. Louis-Senior were the other 2A teams that finished in the top 20.
The West-Suburban Conference Silver Division remained the top conference with teams in the top 20 with four schools. The Southwest Conference, The Big 12 Conference, and the Southwest Prairie Conference were next with two schools each.
The ILXCTF.com (formally the DyeStat Illinois) Relay Rankings are based off the DyeStat TFX Leaderboards on Athletic.net (as of June 1, 2018) for the four relays that are contested at the IHSA State Track & Field Meet. In the All Class, 3A, 2A, and 1A categories, the top 50 quartets are ranked with 50 points given to the fastest school down to 1 point for the 50th fastest.

Cahokia had ruled the 2A rankings for the first five years. It was Mascoutah that took the top spot in 2018. The Indians, who finished second overall in the 2017 rankings, scored 185 points to take home the top spot.
All of Mascoutah’s relays finished in the top ten, with their 400, 800 and 3200 Meter Relays all among the top four in 2A.
East St. Louis Senior’s season ended after the incident at their conference meet where they could not compete in the state series. The Flyers still had the performances to finish second overall in Class 2A with 171 points. East St. Louis-Senior won the overall and Class 3A titles in the rankings in 2017.
Dixon (161.5 points), Burlington Central (157 points), and Eureka (131 points) were the other teams in the top five. Cahokia’s team was young in 2018 but still had the point total to make the top 20 finishing 11th in this classification.
